General Too Cheap

General Too Cheap

Despite what is is 'officially' certified as, I think that this a period 'Abarthisation' of a 500, and yes, it does sound very cheap if IS an original. The book "Abarth 595/695" can't be that rare--I have a copy of it! The seats dolook not original, possibly quite a bit younger than the car. and the rear wing badges are on the wrong way round---the "Campio de Mondo" badge should be on the PASSENGER side so that it is shown to people on the pavement and the 'flash' badge on the drivers side (page 36 of the 959/696 book). It has what looks like a Solex 34PBIC carb on it (but missing the correct ducting between the air-filter housing and the carb), but this carb was only fitted on the "SS" version of the 595 (as well as the 695). Nit picket I know, but if you are going to sell something as 'genuine' ALL the bits have to be correct.

The last time I saw something similar for sale at Silverstone was an original 'Radborne' 595 and that went for 32k I think :eek::eek:
Ian.

I saw a factory car go think for 45,000€ but it had a full racing history....
Genuine Factory Abarths have a totally different chassis numbering system...

There sa guy in the UK Simon Lyons who believe s one of the world experts on Abarths... his comments on Aucton cars often provoke a huge backlash... but he is even known in Italy...
He used to collect Fiat, Abarth and Simca race special...

I would expect a 'totally genuine' 595 to go for about E40,000. The 'Radbourne' cars are recognised as 'pukka' by Abarth, but they were built up from standard cars using a kit supplied (in a nice big wooden box) from "Corsa Marche"--there was even an Abarth chassis plate in the kit. Radbourne ended up 'building' about 250 cars, ranging from 500s through to 850s.

I know this car from days of yore.

I advise any potential buyer to check the physical chassis number..

Further more the "original" car was a 500D which was converted a bit later by Abarth. But this isn't that car anyway!

The V5 says 500D not Abarth.

I supplied the genuine steering wheel! The instruments/pod are replicas!

So is everything else!

For the right money it's a fun thing but caveat emptor in spades here...
