Headliner was looking tatty and falling off around the edges a bit.
Decided to pull it off which wasn't that easy by the way. I am left with fur on the roof where the glue has held very very well.
What can I use to remove fur and glue without damaging roof. The car is going into a bodyshop for a part respray to make good someone's previous attempt.

3M makes an excellent adhesive remover, but it'll still be a chore for 60 year old glue. You could also try one of those rubber decal remover wheels. If you're going to respray anyhow, get after it with some scotch-brite pads on an angle grinder.

I would heat it first, using a hair dryer or a hot air gun... but be careful not to scorch the paint on the roof...? then scrape it off with something firm and plastic. If you have a body filler applicator or an old credit card, that might work.

Otherwise the best solvent known to mankind is petrol... soak some onto a rag and dab it onto the glue to see if it dissolves the glue. That won't need so much abrasion, more dab and wipe.

If the glue is crusty and hard and nothing touches it, then it should abrade off using a sanding block.

Thanks to all of the above responses. ?
Will work my way through suggestions until I find the just right one.
With the petrol one must remember not to take up smoking while using it! ???
