Calling D owners.
Can you tell me what clips I need to order and how many?

I need the clips for the door trims and quarter panels.
Sadly mine were all missing when I bought it.
The 500D parts manual doesn't show the clips either.

There are 2 listed but I don't know what is correct.

The long clips were used on N's for the lower part of the door panel
but looking at both my doors and panels the normal offset clips would suffice...
the offset clips seem to be used everywhere else..

as for how many... can't you just count the holes :D:D:D

Sean, I’ve got one short clip at the front edge of the doors and two at the back edge, all in body colour. Without removing the rear side panels it looks like two long clips both at the top and the bottom on each side panel and a push type clip in the centre of the B post edge. Hope this helps. (y)

I don't have my trims yet.
Also I don't have the lower channel on my doors as they were heavily corroded and couldn't find a replacement so I went for the N look which will need clips at the bottom.

I found an old quarter trim
3 long clips, 2 small per side

I haven't got any old door trims to check.
I have the later D door but these should have the lower channel and therefore only 2 clips.
I replaced the bottom frames and these don't have any holes yet.

Andrea at Passionne 500 has kindly added the number of clips for the trims on his website following my enquiry.
However now I just need to find out if the later D trims have the holes in the bottom of the trim for the extra clips i need or can I use the N or early D door trims that have addition clips along the bottom.

just for you.....

58 N front door
bottom has 5 holes for short clips
rear edge has no holes but the external tab
front has 2 holes but these are too small for clips so presume screws ... using a slide in plate....
Top has 3 holes for short clips
I'm sure another clip is needed towards the front upper corner..

Problem is fitting the panel would be impossible using lots of Slide in clips..

Now the fly in the ointment....

My NEW N Panels have just 3 holes in the top edge for clips, the two screw holes at the front and none at the bottom, so how do they fit???
(Unless have bloody D panels!! that use the runner...)
I have an old panel that has 5 holes along the bottom and 4 along the top so allowing for the slide in clip in the front corner....

I will see if I can put my hands on the rear panels...

(personally I would f i had the chance have panels made so the holes were cut to take modern plastic trim fasteners....)

Not sure what external trim you have, but those in the know actually recommend the use of the later plastic fasteners rather than the bent wire ones.... The wire ones simply rust and cause the holes to rust too...

had to repost due to the stupid "Edit" rules...

just for you.....

58 N front door - updated following your pics Sean...
bottom has 5 holes
rear edge has no holes but the external tab
front has 2 small holes
Top has 3 holes
I'm sure another clip is needed towards the front upper corner..

Problem is fitting the panel would be impossible using lots of Slide in clips...

My NEW N Panels have just 3 large holes in the top edge for clips, the two smaller holes at the front and after a re-examination 5 large holes at the bottom,
I would suggest the larger holes are for the slide clips and the smaller holes for the push in clips

UPDATE...
yep rear 1/4s same as yours...

D doors are obviously slightly different but I think the suppliers sell the panels as N/D but I have seen so many D's with badly shaped door panels... may be worth checking...

hope you get all that .. let me know if you want some pics of the new panels

Andrea @ Passione says the early D door trims are taller than the later D ones and won’t fit my doors.
I cant see it myself but will have to take his word for it and order the later ones and find away of fixing them with clips.
Hopefully I can make some holes from the back of the trim without damaging the vinyl.

Well I have a pair of D doors with original door cards...
(they were to be sacrificed to save a pair of N doors)

If you remind me tomorrow (sat) can either try to take a door card off or take photos and measurements so that can be compared with the N/D ones have
