Technical Engine Performance Due to Heat

Do you have an infra red heat temp gun? A reading of the coil before and after fitment of the shield would be interesting. Same duration drive etc.

Great idea, I actually have an IR heat temp gun and will for fun take some temperature readings all over after a run, as it is now and make a video

Hey Everyone,

For anyone who was curious, attached are the photos of the heatshield that I made up. It's made of clad stainless steel, cut, bent, and ground to size/shape, and fitted with some small "L" brackets which are mounted into factory locations. It's painted as close as I could get to the actual colour of the car (not many options at Home Depot), and it works perfectly! The coil is warm, but far from hot! While not as OEM looking as I would like, it does the job, maybe this winter I'll make up something a bit more official looking.

Good job! Looks like it goes up a bit higher than mine. I bet installing these heat shields will help many that are experiencing similar issues to what we had.
Mr Fiat and other companies should start fabricating these or a small heat blanket to go around the coil.

Putting an insulating blanket around the ignition coil will cause the coil to get too hot , due to the heat produced by the current flowing through the resistance of the primary windings not being able to escape from the coil.

I manufactured a bespoke shield over the exhaust box when the original did not fit with the sports exhaust to restrict the hot air from the exhaust box rising into the engine compartment. That coil shield should not be hard to make.

That one looks pretty nice Toshi! I'm with Labman, it would be pretty nice if someone like mrfiat was willing to manufacture one, I bet it would be a "hot" seller!

Can we see a pic of this installed?
