I have a problem fitting a new handbrake cable.
They only list one available to fit all models.
Even with the handbrake slackened right off and the cable adjusters slackened off I seem to be short by about 50mm
Can anyone see anything obvious that I am missing? IMG_9344.JPGIMG_9343.JPGIMG_9342.JPG

I have checked the part numbers and D an F/L handbrake parts are the same....
silly suggestion would be are the levers locating correctly in the brake shoes,

It is late at night, so I will concede that my brain might be completely out of gear, but if you have the outer-cable adjusted as in picture '2', have you not lengthened the outer cable which will effectively shorten the inner cable. Have you tried adjusting the outer sheath the other way, so shortening the outer-sheath between the 2 fixed points---the handbrake cable roller and the adjustment tang on the rear wish-bone.

I removed the drums and checked brake levers were located properly.
Tom, the outer cable needs to be at minimum adjustment because you adjust the outer to make it longer as the inner cable stretches.
The way I have it set up makes the outer smaller in length and the inner longer.
I am now about 20mm too short.

I think I have found the problem.
looking at some old pictures closely I think I have the bearing hubs on back to front.
Hence why I put the hubs on before the backplates.
This is adding about 10mm on each side.

Time to take it all apart again. grrr!

Hi Sean, I too am getting really good with the 500 parts hokey kokey - I do wonder if secretly we get it wrong on purpose just to have the joy :cry::cry:
of taking it all apart again........................ or not ??? (n)(n)(n)
Glad that you have figured it out anyway (y)(y)(y)
Ian.
