Fiat 500F 1973. I have shorn off the top part of one of the wishbone mounting bolts to which attach the upper wishbone arms. The bolt is embedded into the chassis. I need to find a way of repairing it.

Would anyone know if this is a stud that can be removed or is it welded directly into the chassis? I would appreciate any advice with respect to repairing it. I'm attaching a picture of the shorn bolt.

Many thanks...

Both the top 'yoke'bolts are welded to a plate which is available as a separate part. However, the difficult part is detaching the plate which is welded into place on the inner footwell. It can be reached by removing the footwell carpets. I had a similar problem on a 500 many years ago and after a bit of head-scratching came to the conclusion that the easiest way around the problem was to drill the bolt out from the inside (10mm). This way, as soon as you go past the head of the bolt, the threaded section will come off. Clean up the remaining bolt head and then use a bolt and a thick flat washer to replace it. It was awkward, but it did the job. Use a high-tensile bolt (a 10.9 minimum)--do NOT under any circumstances use a 'stainless' bolt. Try and find a bolt with some clear shank on it (for the section that will go through the spacer and the yoke).

Many..many thanks for this. I was totally unaware that these bolts can be reached from the inside of the footwell. I will try to remove the existing bolt and replace with a high-tensile non-stainless bolt.

Again, many thanks. I will let you know how it goes...
