Hello All, can anyone help with rich running on my 500. It is a 26 imb10 and is not the original carb but the jets are correct according to the haynes manual(112 +0.45) ive checked the valve clearances but not the timing yet as its fitted with an electronic system in the carb and at the moment i am without a timing gun. Also float adjustment.
If i understand correctly if the incoming fuel is set by the jet size and cannot be altered then i presume the air flow could be restricted, I took out the air filter and went for a run . I took out a plug on return and it seemed to be better but after another run it was back to black again. Please helpppppppppp

Have you checked that the float valve is clean and shutting the fuel off once the float has reached the correct height? A damaged float valve may cause flooding and, or, a rich mixture. You can easily test that the jet is seating correctly by removing the float chamber cover and blowing through the fuel inlet. Air flow should stop once the float is raised to the closed position.
