Hi. Relative newbie here.

Stock 1970 500L here. Should the transmission mount be snug and right up against the transmission or is there supposed to be a gap there?

The current mounts are old and slightly rotted, but they don't seem to be touching the transmission at all. They are about 1/4 to 1/2 inch away. I suspect this is making my transmission and engine move around quite a bit.

Thoughts?

Each of the 2 gearbox mounts has a stud and a flange with a hole in it. The flange should bolt up tight against the gearbox and the part of the mount with the stud should be tight against the cross-member, There should be a small gap under the gearbox between the cross-member and the gearbox. The holes in the cross-member are slotted to allow a measure of alignment.

Thank you for that! The mounts are not attached to the transmission at all! They are just attached to the cross-member. The transmission seems like it is literally suspended in the air.
