Hey all. I just imported a rebuilt fiat I4 903cc engine bored out to 1000cc. I have the mounting beam, muffler and stock trans adapter for a 500/126. Builder claims 70hp. I decided to buy a different fiat (125p) and changed my mind on this build. Would anyone be interested? $2800. I have pics.

If you have a '903' engine that has been bored out to 1000cc, would I be correct in thinking that you have a 4-cylinder, water-cooled engine? If that is so, it is a 600/850 owner that you need to contact. If you sell the engine to a '600' owner, don't forget---the 600 engines run in the opposite direction to that of the 850/903 engines! (and yes, I do know of somebody who forgot/wasn't told of that little fact!).

It has an adapter for 126/500 gearbox, and yes, it does require a radiator in the front or somewhere. I was going to put it in my 126p where the spare tire sits.
 
Interesting project---in Poland it is quite a popular project to fit a water-cooled 'Fire' engine into a 126, and then go rallying with it. The rear mount for the engine is a 'sky-hook' design. It makes for a b---y quick little motor!

OP didn't state which model his 903cc engine came from.
If it was from a Fiat 127, then it turns in the normal direction (clockwise looking at the crankshaft pulley.

One quick way of identifying which 903 engine you have is that a 127 engine has the fuel pump on top of the timing cover, the 850 has the fuel pump on the side of the cylinder block.

Iirc, the direction of rotation on 850/903cc engines can be changed to clockwise by using parts from the 600/127. Don't forget to change the clutch pressure plate, as the drive strap direction (in order to be under tension) is different.

When I worked at Radbourne Racing one of the lads (an Australian) had a 600 with a 850 engine it that he and his wife had toured the USA and Mexico with. If I remember correctly, he had replaced the camshaft and its bearings, the distributor and the clutch, all from a 600. He had kept the original 850 pistons although they were (technically) back to front, with no problems. This was the car that we eventually turned into a full-blown 850tc Radiale racer.
