I have a 1972 Fiat 500, and am having issues with my drivers door.

One day I went to open it from the inside, and the cable slipped off the handle.
I have gotten it to stay on, but am having a lot of trouble opening the door from the inside.

I need to pull the cable and handle to get the door to unlatch.

I have lubricated, and adjusted everything I can inside and outside the door, but it hasn't changed anything.

I do notice play in the door hinges. Would this throw the alignment off enough to cause my issue?

Any thoughts or knowledge are much appreciated.

If you mean that the normal movement of the handle is not enough and you need to pull further You have to see if all the mechanism of the door lock is loose and worn or broken and repair as necessary. Also repair those door hinges because they might cause you other problems.
