My door cards have gone a bit saggy and I'm after a bit of advice.

I can replace them as they're not expensive.

Or

I can repair them by straightening them and bonding a layer of fibreglass to the inside. The vinyl surface is good and there is no other damage.

The latter is more work obviously, but I like keeping things original* if I can. Has anyone bought a set of after market ones and can comment on the quality?

Thanks.

I can't comment on the copies as mine are near perfect originals. But I'm sure the vinyl could be removed and replaced onto a brand new piece of millboard or whatever the doorcards are made of.

Original interiors must be getting very rare now so I would keep it as long as you can.

A lot of the hardboard in my door cards had rotted away so I used what was left as a template to make new 3mm marine ply inners. To do this I had to cut the inner vinyl diagonally across plus I did this on a nice warm day when the plastic was quite flexible.

Thanks for the replies.
I will try plywood first, and if that doesn't work I'll pick up a new set. I prefer to keep old parts if I can. That way I can justify my hoarding of parts slowly filling up the garage!

If it is of any help to you, I have (in my filing system) a copy of the article from one of the 'practical mechanics'magazines on how to refurbish 'door-cards'; would you like a copy of the article? If you contact me direct with your address, I will put a copy into the post to you (world-wide service!).

That would be great, Thank you!
old repair articles are great, it's a shame there's not so many around any more.

I note there is a "guides" section within this website....
and there have been a lot of "how toos" written they either get lost through the history of posts or rely on people like Tom sending them to people or individuals posting article links in a thread......

There are many "how to's"..... I am struggling to trawl through Seans L resto to find the "how to" remove the ignition barrel from a steering lock... I know it's there....

Can we not make use of this section and create "downloadable guides".. from basic trouble shooting, tappet adjustments Speedo dial change/rebuilds... etc etc..

Good point. There is a 'guides' section on the blue ribbon at the very top. If you select the 500 classic section, there are no entries.

I'm terrible at posting helpful things as I normally end up with grubby hands and my camera phone is indoors or in my pocket. I will make a guide based on the practical mechanics article and my own findings as I try to repair it. I don't know if they're downloadable though.
