I was getting a strong smell of gasoline in the garage coming from the Cinquecento. I thought it was just a leaky carb. Upon further inspection I noticed the top of the fuel pump was wet with gasoline. Looked a bit closer and noticed a bunch of cracks in the top and sides of fuel pump. New one on order!

yep now remove those jubilee clips and replace them with fuel line clips....
they are different..... :):):)

Better still remove that plastic filter from where it can get hot. IF you feel you need to use one put it at the tank end of the fuel line where it’s safe. When they over heat those filters can blow up like a ball then, if it pictures it will spray petrol all over your hot engine.:eek: I’ll bet you don’t want that! (n)

Fiat very thoughtfully placed filters in the fuel tank and in both the fuel pump and on the inlet connection to the carburettor so additional filters are really not nessessary.

What?? you mean we don't need 4 filters plus the huge one in the petrol pump at the garage?

I was sent by mistake a set of far eastern plastic digital calipers... and told to keep them because it was not worthwhile sending them back....
last week I was asked how thick some alluminium was, I though.. I know rather than say "Thin" I will use this superb accurate device guaranteed to 0.001mm to measure it... well it came out as 0.00mm Wow.. I said.. "it's really thin"... now where again are these ebay filters made that filter down to the size of a proton? :):):):):):)

Ian Emery is absolutely correct---the last place you want to put a fuel filter, especially a plastic one, is between the pump and the carb. The system, as standard, has a filter in the tank, the pump and (usually) the carb. If you are buying fuel from a big garage, their through flow of fuel is such that there is very little chance of it being foul.

Thanks for the advice. This filter was in place when I bought the car and I always thought it was overkill. I will remove it. I will have to replace that fuel line as it will be too short now. What fuel line do you recommend I use?

Ok. What do the fuel line clips look like?

The difference is that on fuel line clips the joint slides inside itself keeping the circular shape as you tighten it, jubilee clips have a small section that is fixed so there is a tendency to have a "flat" which is what causes problems...

If you go to a motor factor, or good quality parts store, they should be able to advice on a suitable fuel hose. Take the old with you to show the diameter you need. You should be able to get a couple of suitable clips at the same store (y)

Hi guys, what material is recommended for the fuel line and where do you get the correct clamps? Thanks.

Any GOOD car accessory shop should be able to supply you with 'lead-free fuel compatible' fuel hosing. I can't off hand remember if the fuel hose is 6mm or 8mm----over your side of the pond it would be 1/4in (6mm) or 5/16in (8mm).They should also be able to supply you with proper 'fuel-hose' clips. If you have any problems getting the correct stuff, let us know---dead easy to find over hear.
