Hi all,

Rebuilding the 500F gearbox and have installed a new main shaft and new bearings. Please view the video below to see the issue, but the whole shaft is moving backwards as the bearings slide out of their case housing. This is probably facilitated by some new gearbox oil on the bearings.

Any tips on how to stop this happening as i can't see how this is prevented from happening otherwise. The lip on the rear bearing prevents the shaft moving forwards, but not backwards.

That's normal Glen and it will be locked in place once the selector end cover is in place. It's to allow the shaft to find its correct position once the correct shims have been fitted to the pinion.

Thanks for pointing that out - I can now see the recess in the rear housing to hold the bearing that wasn't immediately obvious!
