Remote oil filter question

I've been thinking about remote oil filters. Something I'll probably fit along with an oil cooler once I've squeezed a few more HP out of the next engine build.

I understand where the pipes are fitted, but I don't know a great deal about the oil flow in the engine. With an external oil filter fitted, does the oil still flow through the centrifugal oil filter?

Thanks.

Re: Remote oil filter question

Greetings Mod, The short answer is yes, the crankshaft pulley/filter is always working as the oil flow direction is from the pump in the timing case to the centrifugal 'slinger' and then down the crankshaft internal gallery to feed the big ends and bearings before dropping off the flywheel end main bearing into the sump!! If you fit a spin-on filter as I have a mod must be carried out in the pump to divert some oil to your filter/cooler arrangement. The oil then returns to the crankcase via a side tapping that feeds onto the camshaft. The 126 haynes manual has a good picture on page 18.

Thanks Ian, very helpful. I'll dig out the Haynes Manual tonight and have a butchers. I have, on loan, a modified timing chain cover with CNC output. It's a nice setup, but I think I'm going to see if I can have a sleeve braised onto the timing chain cover to accept a banjo fitting.

That reminds me, I must try to get a few timing chain covers from Poland to experiment with......

Re: Remote oil filter question

Hi,
My Punto(75hp) oil cooler was failed(Oil mixed with Coolant). Found this in very earlier stage. Actually I bought a "Oil Cooler" from used market. The condition is excellent. But it is a 90hp Oil Cooler. Confirmed by my mechanic too. Do I fix the 90Hp "Oil Cooler" in 75hp Punto? If anyone explained in technical, its so helpful to me. Thanks in advance.
