After reading a thread on cooling methods, I ordered a 7" fan and located it on the engine lid to draw the hot air out through the vents.

My question is to those who have fitted a Fan - what temperature did you set the thermostat at for the fan to kick in?

Hi Chris, My small (5 1/2") fan switches on at 87 and off at 77DegC, mainly because I have a modified engine. The oil thermostat opens at 80DegC to allow hot oil to the cooler, the fan then controls the oil temperature from 87degC. I will say that even with all this the oil temperature will still reach 90DegC + before settling down at just below that. This is with normal road driving as my engine is still running in, I have yet to see what the temperature will peak at when pressing on!!!!:eek::eek:

Hi Ian

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking on the simple principle as my modern day car where the engine runs at 90deg, to set it at that.
Your reply links to my initial thought as to what I'll set it at. Yours being a better more constructed thought process than mine. [emoji106]

I see you live in Ripon, you popping up to Northumberland for the Bywell classic car show on the 1st july? It's a brilliant show!
