Hi Folks

I've recently noticed some paint blistering on the boot lid around the vents. I assume this is likely to be from engine heat? It's a two pot paint job in white or off white done professionally quite recently.

Any thoughts and is there a solution? I have one of the small heat covers that fits to the inside of the boot lid, although not fitted yet. But it seems to small to solve the problem.

I suspect that the heat-shield would have helped to reduce the speed at which this problem has affected the lid; but I think that its primary purpose is to avoid damage to the number-plate lamp.
I recently noticed that after over 21,000 miles and almost four years' driving, under close inspection, the paint on that area of the engine lid on my car is crazing quite badly and will need re-painting quite soon. It was prepared and painted by me:eek: using epoxy primer and cellulose top-coats; the epoxy has stayed in place.
It's not something I remember happening on my original car back in the day and I think you should be able to expect professionally applied, two-pack paint to last a bit longer than it has done.

Morning Tim;
I agree with Peter----I would expect that a professionally done paint job to not suffer this problem in such a short time---especially with modern paint and application procedures. The original paint jobs never suffered this problem, and they were cheaply, mass produced cars. Personally, I would go back to the paint shop who did the job and give them the opportunity to rectify the fault---F.O.C.! The problem is possibly caused by poor initial preparation in that area, which is, I agree, a fiddly area to work on.
I would tend to agree with Peter as to the "raison d'etre" for the little heat shield that goes on the inside of the engine-cover---to protect the area behind the number plate, as the number plate would tend to prevent any heat from dissipating from that area----I have not known the vents ever get THAT hot.

Thanks Peter and Tom for replies. Sorry for my late response.

I had the job done by a pro, but as a private job. But he is pretty approachable so I'll see what I can resolve.
