Bonjour: I have a 71 500l with a weber 26 carb, and electronic fuel pump. I have put in a new petrol tank, new fuel filter, new carb, petronix electronic distributor, new coil, new exhaust manifold, etc. I still experience what I believe is heat soak vapor lock, mainly after a longish hot run. Running with the motor cover open seems to help but not ideal. I was in Deal, UK recently for a car meet and spoke to a chap that had installed a weber 28 with a return line. He installed a T at the sender by the petrol tank, and ran the return from the back of the carb to that T. I also saw a pic here on the Forum from N Zealand, where the T was at the fuel pump and ran the short distance from the Carb to the T just before the pump. I plan on insulating all the fuel lines. Any thoughts out there if there is a prefered method, to install the T just before the the pump or do it at the tank, and have the return line there. Clearly the first method is shortly and easier, but is it as effective?

Thanks for all your help!

I have a fuel return line from the carb to a METAL 'T' piece I have placed to just before the fuel pump, and secured it to the side of the engine bay with (rubber-lined) 'P' clips. I have led the return pipe from the carb down to the 'T' piece behind the big air trunking and inside a length of small-bore water hose (to protect it). I have, again, secured the protective hose with 'P' clips. initially I had a Weber 28 IMB on a tuned (652cc) 126 engine, but I was able to replace the Weber with a Dellorto FZD (which also had a fuel 'in and out') so retained the return system. To date I have not suffered any 'hot start' problem, but I will however concede that as I live in North Wales, I do not suffer much in the way of HOT weather!

merci! i will try the return near the pump as it is an easier process than running a line from the tank to the carb. i live in south of France, so the heat in the summer can reach 30 plus. will let you know. thanks again for the reply. cheers
