Hi,

I know this topjc has been aired previously but has not answered the query I have. Our 1967 500F came with the later front panel with the oblong Fiat badge. It’s my wife’s car and she wants it to look original with the winged badged. It’s an over winter project but having now obtained the correct front panel and badge, there is a large hole where the centre “Fiat” portion of the badge is supposed to fit. There are holes drilled to accept the wings either side of it but I have no idea how the centre part is meant to fit.

I am informed that the large hole is to accommodate the horn which is held in place with two bolts and that this is surrounded by a large grommet which fits into the hole to prevent water ingress. This appears to be correct as the horn on our car has been relegated to a position over the nearside front wheel arch, but the wiring has been neatly folded and taped together suggesting that it is long enough to reach the intended position on the front panel.

Ok, with all this in place, can someone please advise me how the centre of the badge fits into position with this arrangement, presumably covering the horn?

Thanks.

The badge should be one piece in plastic of the centre round bit with two wings. This is held in place by star locking washers on the prongs that stick through the holes. If you have an earlier 3 piece metal badge, this won’t fit without a slight modification. The wings clip into the holes and the inside of the wings slot into the centre part and hold it in place. The holes on a F panel are not quite in the right place so you will have to adjust accordingly

You could always drill the holes required in your existing front panel and save yourself the hassle of removing and replacing the front panel

We have the metal version of the badge. I've gauged that the prongs on the central part are not spaced sufficiently for them to pass through the hole to accommodate the horn. Presumably then small, separate holes have to be drilled through the panel once the horn is in place?
