Hi I have just received a replacement speedo for the one in my fiat 500 L as the clock
Stoped Working , is there any way if winding the miles on this replacement one as the car original one is on 71,000km and the new one much lower .
Is this something that can be easily
Done as would like the mileage to
Correspond with the last mot etc
Regard JoHn

I remember reading up on the old electric drill solution before Sean. I think if I remember correctly? If you connect up the speedo to an electric drill and the other end to the speedo it takes something like a minute to do a mile, so if you have to wind it forward say 20,000 Miles it will take 20,000 minutes which equates to nearly 14 day’s I think? It could get a little boring and increase your leccy bill!!!!!:D

Notwithstanding all the humorous suggestions with regard to INCREASING the reading on your replacement speedo (not something you see very often in the motor trade!) and the vastly increased electricity/battery bill you might incur, may I suggest that you live with the reading on your 'new' speedo and put a note into the log-book/registration certificate that the original speedo was replaced on 'X' date with a speedo reading of 'Y', plus the reading of your replacement speedo unit. Doing this will leave the replacement speedo 'as was' and also remove the chance of any damage to it as you carry out the mileage adjustment. I realise that doing it this way won't be anyway as interesting as the other methods suggested, but it will be a lot more sensible!

There must be a way of taking apart the Speedo dial mechanism or disconnecting the cogs that drive and therefore stop the dials being manipulated. I was talking to an Irish truck driver once whilst loading lemons here in Spain and he had his Speedo dial in his hand and was rewinding it using his airline pistol. Highly illegal

often heard the story of winding speedos forwards or backwards with a drill...
backwards does not work in many cases as there is a funny ratchet thing that actually means the digits only move in one direction in most speedos...
and as for going forwards....
simple maths says if you run your speedo with a drill at an indicated 60mph for 24 hours, then you will advance the reading by about 1400miles...
so may take a while if you need a to increase it a fair few miles...
