Hey guys,

My '67 has an L dashboard and I'm considering matching the colour of the dash with the rest of the car (which is about to go in for complete body work and paint). Does anyone have any experience with painting these?

I've seen a few that look like they've had the texturing on the L dash either removed or replaced with the older steel model, but with the L speedo.

Lastly, how difficult are these to remove? I'm concerned that if I pull it apart the wiring is going to be a nightmare to get all back together.

The dash isn't in horrible condition, this would be mainly for aesthetics, so I'm not completely sold on the painting it idea and wanted to get your opinion before deciding.

As always, thanks for all your help!

Sorry for the double post, the site froze and I didn't think the first one submitted.

The plastic trim piece is just held in place by the Speedo, swiches and the rubber windscreen seal and door seals. Remove these and it will lift off fairly easily. You may get away without removing the windscreen, but I guess you will be taking this out anyway.
I guess they can be smoothed with filler and painted as you would any hard plastic.
Personally I prefer the smooth metal finish and small round speedo of the 500 F, but I think if I had a 500 L I would stick with the Black textured plastic for the sake of keeping it original and matching the door pockets and centre console, but don't let me stop you if you fancy a change. Would be a boring place if we were all the same.

If anyone is interested in an original dash colour I "restored" my very tired and somewhat discoloured dash with liquid boot polish black, the kind in a plastic bottle with a sponge on the end.came out a treat

Really? Thanks for the info!

Does it rub off at all if you touch the dash?
