General Desperate for a RH door

Where are the doors rusty? if it is the lower part of the doors, you can get bottom repair sections (this is where they normally rust). The 'pattern' doors are made of a thinner metal than the original, so if you can retain (and repair ) the original doors, so much the better. If you decide to go the repair route, get a really competent welder to do the job for you, it will be worth the cost.

The doors are actually Rusty the bottom but on the inside of the seam. Sort of where the lip is, where the inner and outer skins join together. The guys doing my restoration said that to fabricate a new piece then weld it would cost about £200. It is purely because the position of the rust holes are so awkward to get to.
I will keep the old doors and maybe look at restoring them, do you know how to separate the inner and outer skins?

, do you know how to separate the inner and outer skins?

Place the door so that it is horizontal, on trestles is best, then with a grinder run around the edges using the grinder at 90 degree to the door, in other words holding the grinder disc vertical. You will see when you’ve gone through the door skin, then use a cold chisel, or an old screwdriver, to peal off the remains.

I hope that makes sense.

£200 per door is cheaper than buying 'pattern' doors--and being that are (presumably) the originals, fit better, and be of a thicker grade of metal--do all you can to retain the original doors. The bottom repair panels are not very expensive.

The door-bottom repair panels are very cheap and dimensionally they are very good, but they lack the subtle dishing which is apparent in the original door.
Welding them in is straightforward for anyone competent but doing that without a fair amount of distortion is almost an impossible task.
The additional problem is that usually the door will have corrosion damage to the frame which is not so easy to sort out.
It's obviously desirable for many reasons if you can repair the original and I have done that, but I haven't seen many other major restorations where at least one of the doors hasn't been replaced.

David, I’ve got one - new unused as I managed to rescue the original.
I’m away for a week - pm me and you can try it out for rot if you like when I’m back.
Chris

Ps you are only found the corner if I remember correctly?
