...and my second plea for help today...

I have noticed a growing noise from the rear. Last night when I was out in the car it was pretty loud from the inside (too loud to ignore). Unfortunately I don't have any recording but it seems to be coming from the offside rear wheel and sounds like something is rubbing as the frequency increases as speed builds up. It sounds a bit like chuff-chuff-chuff :eek::eek::eek:

As you may know I replaced all the brake shoes etc recently but it doesn't sound like brakes binding/rubbing.

I fear the worst (bearings?) but do you have any idea how to start trying to track this down or where to start? I'll get the car up at the weekend and see if the noise can be repeated by spinning the wheel but any hints are as welcome as ever.

Thanks

A bearing noise is normally more of a 'rumble' which will increase with road speed. If the noise is as you say more a 'chuff chuff' check that the drive shaft coupling isn't making contact with the wish-bone, or that nothing is stuck there that is causing the coupling to rub against. Always check the simple things first!!:confused:

I had a similar noise, increasing with speed. I thought bearings too, then I forgot about it and now it's gone! Perhaps it was brake rub or similar and they wore down, who knows. I had another wheel noise crop up again after taking the wheel off and only doing the nuts finger tight in order to move it out of someone's way - problem was I forgot to fully tighten them and was promptly reminded by an odd noise as I puttered down the street!

Hi, I had a similar noise some years back, before the tripods, it turned out to be the alloy part of the drive coupling touching the rear ‘a’ arm. The nut had loosened a tad.
