Hi the gear lever on my fiat just lifts out
Is that right , all works ok and no problem getting gears but when fitting new gear know today noticed that you can just lift it out ???

My apology for the brevity of my reply but there's not really a lot else to say other than answering your question, plus expressing my surprise, hence !

John,

can you post a photo of what comes out, especially the bottom end?

I have included an image of the assembly. From what I remember (based on a resto and the diagram) I think the lever (875554) passes through the front part of the linkage (979394) from the bottom, and it can't actually pass all the way through even if the nut on the bottom of the lever (16104111) comes off. A photo will help us understand what is going on and from there we can guide you on how to fix.

John,
I was just sorting out my garage and found a complete gear lever linkage that I bought when rebuilding my 500... I found the original one the day the part arrived so it’s not been put to use!
Let me know if you need it and I’ll find out how much it was off eBay :)
