Unfortunately we've had some torrential rain of late, and when I took little blue up to get the kids I noticed the doors were full of water in the bottom (still haven't put the new door cards on). The driver's footwell was also more than a little damp, though I couldn't detect a channel of wetness from the door to the footwell so I'm suspecting a different source.

I thoroughly cleaned out the drain holes and base of the doors of all sediment, but those little drain slots really seem prone to blockage, and I'm scared of putting my pretty new door cards on there.

The most likely culprit to me is the gaskets at the base of the wind down windows. The fabric has worn away on mine and there are visible gaps.

I suppose what I'm wondering is:
- these don't look like they offer a great seal anyway. Has anyone tried any more conventional, modern rubber alternatives?

- alternatively I'm pondering if I could just refurbish my current gaskets (recover them) so they sit flush with the glass

- are there any known culprits that bring water into the driver's footwell?

Thankfully it doesn't rain much here, but when it does it really pours!
I'm just pleased my sunroof didn't leak :)

I've just had a thought.

The inside window gasket / weatherstrip along the base is in pretty good nick.
I could theoretically remove the driver's inside one and fix to the passenger outside one.

Does anyone have any experience with removing / attaching these? I know replacing the whole trim is reportedly a nightmare so would like to avoid that!

I have spent three years trying to stop water getting in through the windscreen seal.
One of my doors was filled with water sufficient to swish about at low speed. this was despite fitting new seals; so I made a couple of biggish holes in the door bottom to let it out and drying air in.
I don't think you'll stop water getting into any door with a sliding window in it.:bang:

Thanks so much for that. I was quite worried that I was the only one but if even murph has issues then I guess I’ll just roll with it.
My main concern is the new door panels getting wet and ruined so I plan to glue some thick plastic sheeting on the inside of them and just direct the water to the bottom of the doors.
Out of interest, if one drills holes underneath does it come out ok or so the rubber door seals restrict it

I find the original panels are very good against damp. I think my original L had polythene behind the panel to protect them. Drill the holes towards the skin side to avoid the seal. I could hear the flood flowing the first time so I know it works. Don't forget to rustproof. :)

I don't know if I have just been very lucky, but as far as I am aware, I have not suffered from either screen leaking. However, I do have the chromed-plastic insert in the rubber seals of both the front and rear screens--is it they may be putting more sealing pressure on the body and screen?
With regard to the doors, when I stripped mine down (both doors were OE when I bought the car, but sadly so badly corroded, and previously repaired, that I had to fit new, pattern doors) they both had a large sheet of thin plastic on the OUTSIDE of all the mechanism--effectively protecting the back of the door-card from water ingress.
