Help! I've just imported a classic Fiat 500 into the UK from Italy (I drove most of it).I took it for an MOT on entering the UK and have just been given the following as the week that needs completing;
windscreen wipers
headlamps
rear brakes
brake hoses
track rod & balls
steering pivots
steering component
front brake binding
front wheel bearings
brakes imbalanced.

Effectively, wheels, steering & brakes! I've been quoted approx £1000. Does this sound appropriate or am I being ripped off? Keen to hear views from those with knowledge! Thanks

All of them are plausible, and the headlights are expected. You might also encounter the side-light issue that's been well covered on the forum.

That said, I'd be seeking a second opinion, especially if the MoT centre you've taken it to doesn't specialise in classics. A modern MoT test centre will have a very different view of a classic car compared to a good garage that understands and works on classics regularly.

Where are you based?
Maybe we on here can source for you someone "sympathetic" to your 500.

On a tired 500 with an uncertain history it will be wise to attend to all of those things for safety and reliability in any case. Most restored cars on UK roads will have needed those mechanical repairs as an absolute minimum.
Parts will cost at least half of that at UK prices and you would want someone to spend at least a couple of days to sort it out. So that is a very fair price if the work is being done by a professional garage or another skilled individual.
Congratulations on driving most of it back from Italy; which parts did you leave behind?:D:D:D
