Hi, Just bought a new 650cc Sport engine and and it has some sort of air bypass valve on the top of the fan housing between the air filter and carburetor.
When the Lever is moved to the open position, a small section opens and bleeds out cooling air. It can be locked in the open or closed position. My old motor Doesn't have this. Does anyone know what this is used for? Compartment cooling maybe? Photo's show it open and closed.
Thanks in advance

I'm guessing the idea is that blowing air over the carburetor will help keep it cool and prevent vapor lock situations?

Yes, that was my initial thought. But i can't seem to find any info on this. I even search thru the 126 repair manual and no mention of it.

I believe it is for letting the engine heat up, when closed and to help cool when opened. Most of the engine have a flap off to the lower right with a thermostat that opens and closes it automatically.
