Hello,

Sorry for my first post as a newbie to be a wanted add, but I've just brought a '71 RHD 500L, it's been in storage for 32 years, but is overall in great shape.

I brought intending to just restore, but it's a really honest little at, so for the time being I just plan to use as is and enjoy it as a bit of a "survivor".

I will get some pictures up soon, but fresh petrol and a new battery, along with a reset of its points had it running again. Brakes are next. But one issue is the bonnet, it's had holes for wing mirrors cut, I could just buy a new bonnet and have it sprayed but fear loosing the patina a bit. But I can't bear the bonnet mounted mirrors ..

Does anyone have a (code 208) POSITANO yellow bonnet from a project or breaker they'd part with? Worn is ok.. just looking for sound.

Thanks James

Welcome to the world of the Fiat 500---you will find that this Forum is probably the best and most helpful. Where about are you? It is always a good idea to try and meet your local Forum member--for advice and assistance.
With regard to another (used) bonnet, try Mick Cicora--he is at "MC-INCARUK" (Peterborough) and occasionally breaks 500s (I have had 2nd hand panels off him). Alternatively, try Mark Jayes at MOTOBAMBINO (Carnforth) or Franco Roselli at Ricambio International Ltd (south-west London).

Hi James. I had a Positano yellow 500 which I regrettably sold about 35 years ago so I will be intrigued to see your photos.
208 is the best colour :).
I doubt that you're going to find one in the right colour without it being either out of shape, rusty or a modern, resprayed replacement.
Since the bonnet is so small and easily removable it wouldn't be very hard or particularly expensive to have the holes welded-up and then the whole thing to be resprayed the right colour. If you can get someone to put cellulose paint on it the match might be quite reasonable.
Bonnets do seem to be a PITA to get looking just right so if yours sits well I would hang onto it.
PS. If you do trade up and want to discount the cost of it, you have a willing buyer here if you wanted to sell the original.:D

Another option to keep going without the mirrors is to take them off and pop a couple of small rubber grommets into the holes. Not pretty but it may add to the patina.

That's what I'd probably do also and then paint them in body colour!

But otoh I like original wing mirrors.

Another alternative is depending on the size of the holes is to use chrome head bumper bolts or you might find chrome finish blanking plugs from some piece of equipment or appliance that would suit.

Yet another alternative is, instead of welding up the holes and respraying the entire bonnet, might be to fill the holes (without welding, if done at home) and use a spray can to put 2 flashes of a contrasting colour on the bonnet, think Go-Faster stripes.... :)
