With great relief I can now trust the car to start whatever the weather. For instance, this morning it was an unseasonable -2C and after a slight hesitation it started no trouble. But you can hear that little popping sound which isn't there when hot-starting or at any stage when running.
Has anyone got any ideas of the cause because it annoys me.:bang:
The best I can find is that maybe there is a little surplus fuel in the intake or exhaust which seeped over when the engine was last turned off.

Those windows look pretty fogged up, what's going on inside?

Doesn't sound like anything to worry about. Maybe try a little less choke when starting?

:D:D:D

It never crossed my mnd to use anythng less than full "fuel enrichment device." :D
So I'll give that a try today. Unfortunately, after the long buld-up of poor starting which eventually panned-out as the valve-seat problem. I've become even more sensitive to changes in the behaviour and noise of the engine.:bang::bang:

I have a similar problem at the other end of my journey. When I turn the car off (after anything other than a very short trip) I get an almighty pop/bang from the exhaust about 2 seconds after the engine dies.

Letting the car sit idle for 30 seconds before turning the ignition off usually stops it happening, so I expect there's some fuel in there somewhere that just needs to burn off.

This started to happen after I extended my exhaust wrapping all the way up to the engine block.

I had this issue when I had a 28IMB fitted to my engine with a blocked return port. Went to a 26IMB and the pop stopped. The pop also stopped on the 28 when the engine warmed.
