Hello all

I have an MOT set tomorrow afternoon only to discover today my wipers are not working- the switch seems to be ok as i have voltage coming through when i turn it on and nothing when it is off and the motor does not produce any sounds what soever which leads me to believe the motor is blown
I have replaced fuse as well but no luck
I need urgently a wiper motor by today close of play or the latest tomorrow morning- is there anyone who may be able to assist with a spare used working one perhaps or new one even?
Please could you assist a fellow enthusiast in need of the part? i live in London and can drive somewhere close to pick up this evening if necessary
Please can you PM me or advise me on this thread?
Thank you in advance

There's 2 available on ebay. 1 at 15 quid in colchester and 1 at 60 quid in Andover if that's of any use?

Hi Kampo;
Not sure where you live in London, but when you get to Junction 28 on the M25, Colchester is only 3/4hr drive--straight up the A12. I reckon that would be the one to go for. (Although I now live just outside Chester, we only moved here 2 years ago, and my last full-time job was in Colchester, regularly running into London with high performance cars--hence why I know the times) If you live in West London, the M11 (junc 27), up to Stanstead and then the A120 might be your quickest way.

Thank you paolo- do you by any chance have the link to that motor as it does not come up on ebay when i search it under FIAT500F wiper motor?

Also is it pretty straightforward to change it? it looks like it is but does anyone have any pointers so i do not make any mistake in putting the new one in?

I put in classic fiat 500 wiper motor

I live in Colchester. If you go for that one and need some advice to fit give me a shout

Thank you very much Paolo- i have managed to source a used one located right behind where i keep my fiat so i ll take this one for an extra few quid to save myself the petrol and time it requires me getting up to colchester- i ll go collect in a few hours
Is it a pretty straightforward swap i.e. unbolt the three four bolts on the current one pull current one out and stick the replacement one back on connect cables and off i go or is there any trickery to pay attentino to for the wiper arm brackets at all and their connection to the motor?

IMO take the petrol tank out and the wiper spindle nuts before the three bolts holding assembly in place

Hi ANdrew thank you is it an absolute must to take petrol tank out you think? Can I not bypass it some how? Is there anywhere here a how to for this one given it seems to be quite a common issue?

It will all become clear once you have the replacement motor in your hand. There is one electrical connection, this may be connected to one of the 2 bolts by a p clip. You should be able to unclip the motor from the mechanism by the little spring clips that connect them. Be careful the clips are only small and can be lost easily. You will then have to disconnect the motor from the bracket (3 bolts I think). Don't know if there is enough access to do all this with the mechanism in place but I guess you'll find out. Good luck

Thank you Paolobill give it a try. Should I bother taking the wiper blades off or are they ok to stay in place whilst I m working underneath with the motor and mechanism?

Wiper blades will only need to come off if you end up having to take out the whole mechanism. Don't forget to let us know how you get on

Did you double-check that it has a good earth connection?
Fiat 500 wipers, more than most, whilst having a relatively weak mechanism also have a relatively easy life so it may not be broken.
Also, there is quite a lot going on behind the tank in that area where the mechanism is and it is possible that something, perhaps even a tool or some packing material etc. has got jammed in the works.

Hello i have not- what is the best way to check? is there an earthing cable that connects to the chassis somewhere as i have not seen anything standing out?
I agree with you on the good life comment- generally the motor was working just fine till recently and i cannot explain it. It was always in good nick but now it just does not move at all and does not make any sound what soever when i switch it on. I get voltage OK from the switch so the switch is OK but it does not want to move for some reason- can you point me to the right direction? should i just unbolt it and shake to see? where is the earthing cable? do you know the best way to remove the snap ring from when the worm gear connects to the mechanism wihtout taking the full mechanism out? has anyone got a picture of the snap ring itself so i know what to look for as it is tight in there and i cannot see very well

If I remember correctly the earth for the wiper motor is the black wire connected to the chassis where the flasher unit is for the indicators. Its on one side of the hinge for the bonnet.

There is also the four pin connector from the motor which may be disconnected, loose or corroded. Also the wires under the motor are soldered on but exposed.
You might be able to remove the motor independent of the mechanism but either way it's a struggle. This is RHD showing the tiny "R" clip. I once had one fall off in the (obviously:D) pouring rain in Glasgow.

Thank you i appreciate the pic showing the Retaining clips. i will give it a try tonight- i do not have an option it needs to be done tonight either way ready for MOT tomorrow so i ll keep you all posted

Rather than try and undo the clip in the photo (you wont be able to get to it) go to the next one along

On my RHD I can get to that clip, although I can see that depending on where the motor has stopped it will be tricky. But the next one along is more awkward because you would have to remove the downward-facing one and the short linkage that would still be attached would make hard job even harder.

PS. The one fitted to my car does have the next clip facing upwards.

Ok I found something here

When the stock motor that I thought was gone is free of the mechanism arm it works no issue at all.when I connect it it just does not work which indicates I m the mechanism arm somehow shorts the motor and t does not work-help please how can I insulate there?
