Hi. Can anybody tell me what fuel consumption I should expect from my 500 L
with a 650cc engine fitted.I have driven around but never filled fuel tank to
get an average.

Thanks Bryan

Afternoon Bryan;
I reckon that I am getting about 40mpg from my 500 (with a tuned 652cc engine in the back). The trouble is, it really depends on how you are driving the beast. If you are trying to prove that you really can keep up with modern traffic, and trying to surprise a few people, it will make a big difference to driving it 'sensibly' (whatever that is!). I must admit, I tend to drive my beast 'enthusiastically'---it is much more fun!!

I suspect that fuel consumption with a 650 will be similar to with a 500. If you drove at an equivalent speed then your 650 won't be thrashed as much as a 500 would be. This would negate the slightly higher consumption of a bigger engine. If you thrash the 650 you will go faster than with a 500 for about the same consumption because the car is lighter than a 126. I'll let you know for certain in a few weeks.?

Thanks for that . When I fully finish (If that ever happens ) I will fill her
up and see what I can achieve. Bryan

Well it's a few weeks later now ....in fact, probably around 80.:eek: and having just had a day when having done so many miles forced me to refill the tank after starting the day with it full to the brim, I can give accurate feedback on this. Over 225 miles I used 17.15 litres of petrol which equates to just over 59 miles per gallon....which is far better than I expected and equals the best economy I used to get with a 499cc engine.
It needs to be noted that this was almost continuous motoring for several hours at a time, at almost ideal speeds in the range of 50 to 60mph, in cool weather.....it doesn't take away from the remarkable achievement of that engine design though.(y)
