Hi, looking for help identifying this car. I'm interested in buying it but it's advertised as a steyr/fiat 500, I can't find any info on this model, anyone know much about them?

I think Ian or somebody already suggested it might be an R., which I agree with. The engine mounting is distinctive. But so many parts are interchangeable between models that it could be anything.
If Steyr I think the unusual engine, different from that one, would be the giveaway and even if it was that model, without the engine the main attraction is missing.
The R front logo or recess for it would be easily hidden under the fancy one fitted and the R has a black, round speedo.

Got very little detail about it, all I know is it's registered 1948? And there's no engine or gearbox. The chap only wants 200 euros for it

As far as I can see, just searching quickly, the model C came out in 1949 available as a saloon, Transformabile, estate car and van. The Belvedere, with sunroof, came out in 1952 so I would advice extreme caution if going ahead with a purchase, especially buying blind.:eek::eek: Many things are ringing many bells(n)

The red car is definitely NOT a Steyr--they had very distinctive flat (boxer) twin engines and different suspension to the Fiat produced cars.
The blue car is a 500C Belvedere. With a bit of hunting, engines and gearboxes are still available for these cars--the engine was a lovely little 570cc over-head valve (head, of Aluminium) 4 cylinder engine. At 200 Euros, if you have the space, and the time, it would make for a cracking restoration. These little cars would bumble along at 50-55mph and could return 50+ mpg. I say 'the space' because the best way to do the restoration on this car would be to remove the (bolted on ) body. They were years ahead of their time---4 speed gearboxes (with synchro on 3rd and top), hydraulic brakes and independent front suspension. Whatever happens, it would be a crying shame to let it go to the scrappers!

Hi Rob;
Further to your message to me, a restored 500C Belvedere is worth, depending on the level of restoration, between 6,000 and 13,000 Euros. I don't know where the car is, but it might be a better idea to advise the 500 club of the country that it is in, so that one of their members might be able to take it on. They really are great, practical, little classics and it would be a shame to see it 'disappear'
I know where (in East Anglia) there is a 500A Topolino--it is complete (I know, because my 1st car, as an apprentice, was 2 500A's built into 1 car) but needs a full body-off restoration. It has been sitting in a barn for over 40 years. Sadly, despite my best efforts, and introducing 4 potential buyers to the owner, he insists that by sitting in a barn, its value has been retained and is therefore asking far too much for it--sadly, due to his greed, it may 'disappear'!

It's on a very small Greek island I forget the name as it's not a holiday destination. That's probably why the guy wants so little to buy it. It would cost £1500 to get it back to the uk so probably not viable.

If you can remember the island and where/who offered you the car, I will happily try and contact the appropriate club and pass on the details of the car to them.

I know of a guy who knows a man.......
Who brings a transporter of cars to the UK regularly

Just double checked, it's in mainland Greece I was thinking of another car on an island.
