Hi guys,

Started on the restoration of my Fiat yesterday, was told by the seller that the car is able to start but unfortunately, it can't.
I've checked the spark plugs, all are sparking but I have not changed the fuel.

Hope someone can guide me with this. My plan is to drain all the old fuel and clean the oil filter.

There is a good chance that, if the fuel is old, that it is the cause of the engine not starting. Modern 'Lead-free' fuel goes 'off' a darn site quicker than the old 'leaded' petrol. As much as I hate using the stuff, have you tried starting the engine with some 'easystart'. If the engine fire using 'that stuff', than there is a good chance that the timing etc. is all OK and that the old, stale fuel is your problem. Only use 'easystart' to check the system!

Can I check if the rear suspension is supposed to look like this?

I don't know about the 600 but that is what a 500 looks like when lifted off the floor. I would imagine the 600 is the same seeing it is rear engine.(y)

I see.. Currently my tires are rubbing the body. Not sure if it's the damper or springs..

The 500 and 600 rear suspensions are almost identical, just a matter of scale. Your rear suspension looks OK. Nice workshop--non-standard set of tyres on the rear, what wheels have you got on your beastie?

It's a Campagnolo rims with 185/60R13 Falken. It was fitting the donor car nicely but somehow it's rubbing the fender of this 600 and only on the right side. So I suspected the suspension isn't working well. If not, the quickest way would be cutting the fenders and adding a 1000 TC-R one :D

On a side note, I managed to get the engine running. Old fuel and choked fuel lines were the cause :)

And that's what I like about the tragics that haunt this forum.

Took in an orphan, sorted the issue and no one said boo about the car being a 600.

onya guys.

Just a bunch of really nice people ...

Chris

Agreed. I sold a 600 to buy my 500. Would have liked to keep both. When I had the 600 people would always think it' was a bambino. In the end I traded for the bambino so I didn't have to explain the differences. For nostalgia here's a video of me driving it around in circles.....

having worked on 600s as well as 500s, take my word for it--it is NOT a easy job to fit 1000tcr rear wings on (if done properly). You have to cut back the old wings, weld the inner wing to the outer wing, treat the welded joint so that it won't rust and then add the 1000tcr wings; and unless you match the front wings, they can look silly. Far better is to remove both rear wheels, measure the horizontal distance from the outer edge of the brake drum to a vertical line dropped down from the wing edge--see what the difference is one side to the other. Even if the dampers and springs were shot, this should not effect why the tyre is rubbing the wheel-arch (fender) edge as the drum/hub position is located by the suspension arm position. Try to rectify the problem the simple way--it is normally easier (and cheaper) in the long run.

Really a nice group of people and very helpful :)

The rubbing issue has been resolved. I took the easy way out by panel beating the wheel arch upwards and used an airsaw to chop things that are in the way :p. Took it out for a test drive and already falling in love with it.

My plan for now is to make sure all lights are working so that I can pass the inspection and after that, all hell will break loose:devil:

Hi all,

Finally had time to continue work on the Fiat. Fitted the front radiator shroud and rear spoiler today and discovered that the spoiler is badly warped. So much for a brand new part that costs US420. Have anyone tried installing the front and rear fenders? Any tips?

Ben

All the best with your project, but don't forget to weld the inner-wing to the outer-wing. If you don't do this, you will lose a lot of vehicle rigidity.
That is one heck of a workshop that you are able to work in!! Where is it? Is that another 600 on the ramp behind you?

That's my office, we build special vehicles and yup, that's another 600 which is a donor for the orange one :D

Take the glass out Ben , or you'll end up with sparks embedded in it.

Oh right. Thanks for the heads up!
