General Ripped out her heart

Figured out that the new carb from Mr Fiat had a leaking float. I got a float from a scrap carb and it is working better. I now need to change the coil as it is acting up. Here she is at a show today.

So today I played with the idle mixture screw. As it has been covered in other threads in this forum, I turned the mixture screw in 1/4 of a turn at a time until the engine sputtered. I backed it out 1/4 turn and she seems to run better. I can get more speed and the car does not lurch at high revs. Next step is to replace the coil (dodgy) and the choke cable because I cannot push the choke lever back down.

I drove down the driveway today and heard a flopping/grinding noise from the rear right wheel. I did a 180 back into the garage and took a look. Three of the bolts holding the shaft to the flex coupler had fallen out, with one found in the driveway. I looked at the opposite side and it was tight. So why is this?

Answer is the bolts on the right are different than the left. The ones that fell out had an allen head vs a hex head. I could not get a good torque on the allen heads.

I just ordered hex head replacements, so I will still run her on just the two bolts holding the flex couoler together. I will just keep an eye on it.

Looks great. I really like the white wheels. I have the add on white wall inserts but they are starting to damage the sidewall of the tyre so when I get my car back from the panel shop I will copy you.

Who knows even though my colour choice is to go back to the original antique Ivory, I am still having trouble convincing my kids so maybe my bright yellow car will become a lighter shade of pale and your car can have a doppelgänger in Australia.

Did you use a Fiat colour or just select the colour out of a catalogue?

Cheers
Geoff

Glad you like the body color.

I was worried about painting the rims, but it worked out. I had to beat the rims back into shape and fill in sone rust holes with metal fill before hand sanding and painting.

The white wall trim is garbage. I saw a few cars in Italy with it attached and it was all sort of warped, or wonkey as you might say. Sorry to heat about the tire wear issue.

I drove down the road today and after awhile third gear would not select. I turned around and first was iffy. I got back home and put her on the ramp and looked. All seemed tight and good. I drove her off the ramp and all is well. Really weird as I ground gears for miles trying to get it into 3rd for a bit. I drove her 20 miles after and all was fine. What the heck?

Just done mine, but i did stonechip overpainted with white

What I love about these cars is how truly small the look when placed to other cars of similar vintage :D
