Before I snap it in half......does the rear view mirror on my 1971 L pull of the ball joint to remove or is there a secret to removing?

A few photos that I took when I was rebuilding my car.

My car is a 500F, not an L but the mirror mount may be the same.

When I rebuilt my 500 I had to replace the mirror as someone in the past had put the wrong wattage bulb in there and it had melted the plastic housing on it. They cost nearly £50!!!!!!!!!

I had taken it off by unscrewing it, then the car had loads of work done on it so it was about a year before the new mirror was fitted. Then I had one of my plonker moments. When I went to fit it, it wouldn't fit through the hole in the arm???? So I though damned pattern parts it doesn't fit. So out came the electric drill and I made the hole bigger, then as I was putting the nut on the mirror to hold it to the arm, it suddenly dawned on me that I was meant to screw it on to the arm!!!!:bang:
