Got an F 1970, original engine - which means about 18 hp. The bark is certainly worse than it's bite. How much more power and torque would I be likely to get by fitting another exhaust? And how much more noise....?
O allknowing forum!

Hi Rovs & welcome to the forum. In my experience the amount of noise that many sport exhausts make will make you think that you are going faster and that is about it. If you want more power then you have to look at the well proved route of mods to carb , head , camshaft & exhaust :)

Yes, a 'Sports' exhaust can increase BHP and torque--maybe. A 'Sports' exhaust is used to help extract, and therefore increase flow through the cylinder head--more air through, bigger bang, more power. However, unless the cylinder-head is modified to allow more air IN, you won't get much more air OUT, no matter how good the exhaust is. If you get a good 'Sport; exhaust (Middle Barton sell a good, strong, single) it will produce a fruitier exhaust note that will make the sound faster, and may even make it go slightly faster.

Thanks. We've got plenty of air here in Denmark at the moment, and cold too.
But if I understand you both correctly, I should start by fitting a larger carb, and then follow up by an exhaust with lager pipes...? Would that give me more power?
