I have started to acquire from Ebay used parts for the 500 and compatible 126 items.
I just received a very mixed batch which included a starter motor, a 28mm carb, couple of ignition coils etc. etc.
The most expensive item has effectively bumped up the price of all these bargain bits (still a bargain) by exhibiting signs of a fairly serious and terminal incident in its past life. Straight to the scrap pile I think:bang:

Looks like scrap sadly- personal experience suggests too many revs! Had this happen to me about 25 years ago trying to keep up with a fully loaded Mk1 Escort in a traffic light Grand Prix, also destroyed the Piston and rod too..

Did the seller advise you that the head he was selling was fit for the bin? if not i would seriously ask for my money back on that one Peter.
Im glad i didnt bid too much on those items now.

No he didn't Sean, neither did I ask though. I would always describe fully and give plenty of pics but he was very agreeable on combining postage after I had committed so maybe that was a guilty conscience. I put it down to experience and the other buts and pieces, although very grubby are in acceptable condition and fair price.

I could always resell with a full description and photos...you never know. might give it a try>:D

Well I was just telling Sean on the phone. I have gone one step further on ebay and bought an 650 engine and syncro gearbox complete with carb basically everything for a bargain. Looked in really good condition in the pictures.

I pick it up later this week, at least it gives me the chance to see what I have bought beforehand.

Even if I dont use it on my car it was too good to miss out on.

Hi Tony,

How was that engine and gearbox?

I passed on the buggy, too much hassle!

Let me know if you're planning to sell them on once you've had a play around with them, give me first refusal! ?

It has good compression and looks really clean. It probably is less than 20 years old as it has no distributor and uses a wasted spark setup with the timing off the fly wheel, so has built in electronic ignition. It does have one bolt that holds the tin work to the engine block that the head has sheared off but there is quite a lot of the remainder of the bolt protruding so I reckon I can get that out.

I was basically given the rear loom of the car and had to extract what I needed so that I can bench test it, which I have now done but I just need to add a few addition wires to give me a 12v power source for the ignition and starter motor, as it has a solenoid the engages the starter motor, so it can be turned over from the ignition switch rather than the lever. So if I was to use it, it is simply a case of fitting an Fiat 850 ignition switch in the hole and running an additional wire through the tunnel back to the solenoid.

TBH it's too cold to grub about on the garage floor, so the big test will probably be in the new year.

He reduced that buggy down to £250.00 the following day and I am pretty sure that just the buggy alone has reappeared on EBay for £165.00. The guy who is selling it has sold 650 engines before so I wouldn't be surprised to see the engine and gearbox making a reappearance soon.

I'm sure it already has there's one that looks familiar on there now with a starting bid of £50.

Though it says he's had the engine for over 20 years, but I'm sure it's that one with the dodgy paintwork! Haha!

No that's a different guy, this one is in Tunbridge Wells. If you search for 126 buggy you see it.

Interesting concept putting a 500 engine in a boat, I would imagine it would be a bit of a choppy ride from all the vibration.

There's a good looking recon on there for just shy of £1,000 or best offer. The guy also has a gearbox recon for just under £300 might see if he'll take £1000 for both. Trouble is I've got nowhere to put them (other than in the car) and I think an engine transplant will have to wait until better weather!

Just had a look at that engine and gearbox. Looks really good, I like the fact that he has kept it original looking, if you can get it both for £1000.00 it would be a good deal.

Whereabouts are you based? The seller is in London.

Tony

If the person that people are dealing with in Tunbridge Wells is Ladislav Morvai, I know him. I have bought an number of parts off Ladis (and his lady Lynette) and have had no problems with him at all. If anybody wants to use my name as a reference when dealing with him, Tom Montagu, feel free to do so, and give him my regards.
