My indicators(flashers) work OK. The green idiot light in the binnacle flashes on and off bit remains illuminated when the indicators aren't flashing. The flasher relay is new.
Any clues why this might be?

Old Italian cars (? all Italian cars) suffer from bad earthing in the electrical systems. I'd start there.

Also, are you sure you have the correct flasher and it's wired in correctly? Often modern socket conventions differ from those of old.
