So I was giving my wife Beth a ride in the '69 500L. There are really steep hills on our road. Going up one she noted how slow the car was. I said "it was a lot faster without you in the car." She punched me.

Here's a pic of the car at the local supermarket. Surrounded by typical American iron.

I thought Bambinos looked small parked next to Euro boxes, but next to those trucks they really do look dinky!

Hi John;
All goes to prove, it doesn't have to be large to be fun. Also, you are lucky, the missus only thumped you--when Ann and I were motoring in Scotland, before we got married, I can't remember what I said but I got attacked by an AA road map--and it hurt! Well we did get married, moved from London to Edinburgh with EVERYTHING we owned in my Fiat 500 (JJJ 43D) and are still married after 39 years; says a lot for the fun you can have in a Fiat 500!!

Hi John;
Well let's put it this way--we'd be hard pushed to get it all into a fiat 500 now! Ann has just reminded me and I forgot to mention, among our possessions was Ann's little hamster in it's cage which had to go on Ann's lap for the whole 400 mile trip--we did break the trip half-way in case you thought that I had lost my marbles and had a great deal of trouble getting it all back into the car after the break!--my new car will NOT be used as a furniture van!!

So I was giving my wife Beth a ride in the '69 500L.

I suppose it's a good thing the 500 usually had a sunroof, makes up for the lack of legroom.

I remember giving a girl a ride in my Vauxhall Chevette (think Chevrolet Chevette but with a smaller engine) in the late '70s and got terrible cramp after climbing over the gear lever.

Mind you, a friend of mine used to have a MGB GT and he used to have to get out of the driver's seat and walk round the other side to "attend" to his girlfriend which was a bit of a passion killer if it was raining.

Hi all,

Getting hitched in Feb but 8years togather so should know what i'm getting into. Only have the 500 the last couple of months so can't comment on any going's on ;-). But the last time I had a 500 girls would'nt of gone near me! Only 16 and lets say it was'nt the cool thing to have.
