Fiat 500R in Maryland near Washington DC. Head a lovely run this morning. If a picture loads more is the Orange one.

okay, I give up. How to upload pictures?

Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey,

There are 2 ways to attach images to your post:

1. Upload the images to a public web site (e.g. photobucket, etc.) and then click the "Insert Image" icon when you're posting and add the web site link to your image(s).

2. The easier way is to scroll down to the "Additional Options" section when you're making a new post, and click the "Manage Attachments" button. Here you will be able to click "Choose File" and upload your images for attachment to your post. Please note that any images you upload this way will be limited to the Max File Size limits posted in the "Manage Attachments" window.

Hope that helps!

Ok, thanks for the tips. Mine is in the center, Troy Bigham's on left Mark Santaw's on right.

4 Classic 500s in NM

I just moved back from Italy to southern NM and brought back two classic 500s (1973 500R and 1971 500L). There is another family here in Alamogordo who also brought back an off-white 1971 500L from Italy when they moved back from Italy about 5 years back. The last of the four I am aware of is a black 1973 500R up in Santa Fe brought back from Aviano, Italy by my former boss in 2012.

A bit about my cars:
I bought my 73 500R from the son of the original owner who bought it in Aug 1973 and passed away in 2009. When she died, her son pushed the car into her garage and it sat until Jul 2011 when I bought it with documented 51K kilometers. 'Luigi' (cliche' I know) is Giallo Senape (mustard yellow) in original paint with a re-spray in a few areas and very minor rust. Bone stock interior with the exception of a cassette player radio and speakers added in the 80s. I commute 15 miles each way on a highway at 60 mph most days to enjoy my work day a bit better.

My In-Laws visited us in Italy twice during our three years living over there and my mother-in-law fell in love with my Cinqueciento (Luigi). She has always wanted a toy car and her 1987 Rabbit Cabriolet was just not cutting it, so I located a 1971 500L in a back yard in a small town near my home in Italy and dropped 1K euro on the rusty, not running hulk. My good friend and Fiat mentor, Roberto Quattrin, opened his shop and weekends to me free of charge for the next 8 months while we completed a full rotisserie restoration on it. Her name is Pia and she now wears a fresh coat of Rosso Corrale (Coral Red) paint, tan interior (almost orange - not what I was hoping for when I ordered the kit) and is a running, driving classic. We used mostly original trim pieces to make her look more classic, less restored. The accidental paint bubbles on the roof will help that, too :bang:. I'm am trailering her to drop off in Sata Rosa, NM tomorrow as a gift to my wonderful mother-in-law.

I also am picking up a nice 1971 124 Spider tomorrow as a short-term winter project...

Better pics to follow.

Just bought a '65 500F and I'm going through it to make sure it's road worthy. Any idea what license plate frame to use?

Thanks!

I used a metal frame surround, turned inside out and drilled to fit the stock holes in the engine lid (if that makes any sense). Basically, the frame is a chrome one that is supposed to go on the front, but I used it to act as an adaptor. Frame bolts to it and it bolts to the car with bolt heads hidden under the plate. I bought it at K-Mart.

Seems like most of these cars are located on the Eastern half of the US (with a few exceptions). I know there have to be some in the Seattle area. Anybody interested in meeting somewhere for an afternoon of Fiat chat and car oogling? I have a red 1966 Fiat 500F. Her name is Diavolina because she's a little devil. I also have a 1967 Autobianchi Bianchina Fantozzi which isn't technically a Fiat but Autobianchi used the Fiat 500F engine in it so a good chunk of it could be considered Fiat. Anyway, you'll see us hopping around Seattle in these tiny little cars (when they run).

thanks :)

Did you ever make it back to Florida with one? I am in Tampa,Florida and I own a 1972 500L.

Didn't bring one yet, but am still looking at how to deal with import and shipping. Still haven't found any good info.

Did you bring yours over yourself?

I acquired mine here in Florida from a friend. I'm curious, have you tried Ebay? I see them up for auction all of the time.

need to keep an eye out for ebay, last time i checked there were 2 in the whole of the US

Checking in. I am currently living in Naples Italy, but am headed to San Diego California in three months; I have a 1969 L with 10775 KM. I will try and take a better Photo in the future!
