hello, I have a fiat 500 model f , 499cc engine, are there any plugs that work better than others for this particular engine, thanks Ric:):):)

According to my Instruction booklet, the original plugs recommended were Marelli CW225N, Champion L-85 or Bosch W225T1. They are all 14x1.25mm (metric diameter & pitch) with the gap set to 0.60 - 0.70mm.

Some of these plugs are no longer available but may be stocked by specialist dealers (eg: www.gsparkplug.com). There seem to be plenty of modern replacements available with various heat ranges and tables of compatibility are found fairly easily on the net.

If you can't get NGK plugs, try the Bosch W7B series instead (W7B, W7BC, W7BP). They are apparently interchangeable.

Nowadays the gaps are preset - I haven't set a plug gap in years.

Ric,

.... and just for fun (it's a quiet afternoon here on the coast) here are some photos showing the NGK plugs from the inside.

The head is the knackered 'spare' from a 650 engine that I was given.

I would think that the 500 looks functionally the same.

It's killing me that you have a "spare" laying around and I'm having a horrible time trying to find a new one! I need a new head for my Giardiniera...it's been at least 8 months now. It's tough to find parts for the side-ways mounted motor in the wagons.

Sorry - I don't mean to gloat. Surely somewhere in the world there must be a stock of spares for the Giardinieri. By contrast, the little sedans seem to be well catered by the spare parts merchants.

The head in the photo is from a Niki 650 that had a particularly hard life. It's only use now would be as a boat anchor.

Hi Ric,

I use NGK BP6HS plugs in my standard 500F engine and am very happy with them. Goldilocks plugs - not too hot, not too cold :D

Chris
Are you guys using this plug? Mr. Fiat.com sells this NGK for the 500, but I’ve never seen a plug like this…..check out my pic please. Thanks!

Those are very similar to the plug style found in 2 stroke mercury outboard engines. Flat electrode and no adjustable spark gap.

I honestly dont know how those would perform in a fiat engine. They are usually used for engines that have odd geometry and dont have sutable sparkplug tang to piston top clearance at times.
