Years ago I fitted a BMW 700 flat twin engine to a 500 - the engine was a gem, all roller bearings and very smooth up to well over 6000 revs. BMW fitted it in the back of a little saloon and coupe that looked rather like a miniature Triumph Herald. I tweaked it by fitting twin Amal carbs - went like s--t off a shovel, quicker than the mini Copers that were all the rage at the time and, with lowered suspension and wider wheels it was very handy as well.

In mid surrey car club we had 4 of these Steyr Puch's and you could 4 wheel drift and spin without touching either side of the road?!! :D we used them mainly for Rally's and PCT's, the latter due to very good low down torque/traction etc. [ two of them were exported to OZ in the end]
