Hi Guys,
I repacked my rear wheel bearings, reassembled, and tightened the nut on the flex joint until it felt pretty tight. Now with the tire on I can feel some play. Not enough to see but I can feel and hear slight play in the hub when I rock the tire back and forth with the weight off of the car. Is this normal of do I have to snug them up?
thanks,
dave

Hi, when you say 're pack' did that include new bearings and new bearing cups ? If these are worn, no ammount of grease will stop play in the rear wheels.

Thanks, actually I just removed the axle shaft and forced grease into the bearings with the old seals in place. Sounds like I need new bearings, cups, and seals.

You may wish to print this out before you do the renewal and save yourself some future pain http://www.fiat500club.org.uk/workshop/pdf/No 10aa TECH TIPS.pdf

Enjoy!!...(y)

Thanks, I will definitely follow this advise. The factory collapsible spacer seems like a bad idea to me also. The good news is that it sounds like mine is not the only 500 running around with worn rear wheel bearings. Also, I was worried that I might have over torqued the nut trying to achieve the required drag on the bearings. However, if 50ft/lbs is desired on the custom non-collapsible spacer, I think I am ok for now. Excellent information!
