Seems that I have a cracked axel boot, one slightly worn out coupling, faulty oil pump, and worn out thrust bearing.

The worst part is the couplings that I have are of the 1st edition with 6 grooves which are hard to find except in Italy, managed to find a pair for around Euro 35 ( Hope I win the bid). The common couplings are with 24 grooves for the F/L/R Models are freely available here and all over the world :bang:

Would anyone know if the thrust or clutch bearing has a slight play between the casing where the bearing is held in place? was told its worn out but not sure.

I Managed to find new Oil Pump gear wheels only but not the actual pump, would replacing the gear wheels help increase oil pressure?

Worst part is I have to get this by fast mail which will cost me double and also painfully wait for the ebay auctions to end. :bang:

Ah..... welcome to the frustrating, annoying but great fun world of Fiat 500 ownership! :D

You obviously love your car, and in the end all that work will be worth the effort.

The work you have done on it is a credit to you, and I would guess there are not too many of them on the road in your part of the world, so you will end up with a pretty unique vehicle.

Stick with it Shanil! (y)(y)

Thanks Oppsadaisy, won the bid for the couplings found an expert here who used to work for the then Fiat agents who claims he can repair the Oil pump hope it works

Managed to sort out the oil pump by just replacing the pump head using original part and also phased the pump a bit now the pressure is fantastic

managed to find the 6 cave couplings on Ebay Italy and getting them down through Fedex, found the Oroginal Clutch release bearing in Amsterdam so hoping to get that also by courier so I will have all parts by end of this week and hopefully get the car back into my hands by next weekend

My Axel shafts are the strangest thing as the original axel boot diameter seems to be 24mm but mine comes upto 30mm when caliperated, I was told that the car may have been modified with 600 axels shafts as Sri Lankan roads are not that great for the original 500 axels shafts, Managed to plug in a 30mm oil into a 24mm Axel boot, hope it will work now :worship:

Good news!!...(y)

I think standard 500/126 axles may be 26mm and the original drive boots had renewable seal/sleeve, so your fix might work fine for quite a while. Unsure what the 600 axle size is, but if you have access to these drive boots they might fit within the 500 boot holders if the axles are not original as suggested...:)

Hi all Thanks for the updates, checked out the 600 Axels as well but find they too are 26mm almost identical to the 500 but my Axel somehow measured upto 30mm must check again with the caliperator am really confused about this

i know this Atlanta spare part dealer and have bought some stuff off him a few months back as having aN model, I seem to have gone all around the world to find spares, in fact my Thrust bearing is coming from Amsterdam

Thank you internet!!...lol...I buy stuff from all over the world for my projects...it was much more difficult by telephone n fax in the 80's...lol

Spot on! :ROFLMAO:

Do you know, I seriously don't know how we would live without it, love it or hate it, and how the internet has shrunk the world! (y)

No doubt about that you guys are at least lucky you are in the EU, restoring a car in Asia without internet would have been impossible (y)
