I'm looking to buy a fiat spider and came across one i'm considering...wanted to get some opinions as to what you think it may be worth and any concerns. From the photos it 'looks' really nice but you can only tell so much from photos and it's not easy for me to get to this location. that said, i'll still see it before i pay for it.

Concerns?
Any thoughts on price?

Bob

Here are my random notes from a call with the seller
  • - he's had it for 5 years
  • - the body = a 76 and the engine is a 79 (2000cc)
  • - originally the car had 137K miles ... i'm not sure how many miles the '79 engine has on it.

the good
  • - look like the body (from pictures) has very little rust "only a small bubble" on lower part of one of the doors
  • - nice looking mag wheels
  • - tires are new
  • - brakes are new
  • - kept in a rented storage and has receipts for all the work done to it since he's owned it (5 years) <-- he bought it from someone who owned a bunch of fiats and supposedly this was that guys personal drive.
  • - middle console has been replaced and doesn't look cracked
  • - top = new
  • - new calipers on rear.

the bad
  • - ?? the seats, carpet and top = tan. The console and dash = black <-- i asked about this and he said that this was normal. Is this true for the colors not to match. ( i owned a '74 a/black interior and everything was naturally black).
  • - seat have seat covers
  • - dash is cracked (has a cover on it)
  • - shock towers need to be replaced
  • - 4th gear synronizers are in bad shape -- you have to be at the right RPM/speed to get it to easily shift into 4th.
  • - back seat is out...there's box speakers there instead
  • - heater needs a new valve but he thinks that the heater core is good.

Thanks Dave...glad to see there's such a fiat following on your side of the pond. Hopefully i can get over there one day.
