Help for a novice...

My 1980 124 Spider 2000 was refitted with TWIN IDFS several years ago.
• Fuel return line abandoned (plugged)
• Vapor return line plugged as well

In cleaning up the engine bay, I want to remove disconnected stuff.

Can the canister be eliminated completely?
Can the vapor lines be removed and the tank capped?

If so, how does the tank get makeup air to prevent a vacuum in the tank? I assume the electric fuel pump needs makeup air source to work?

The attached sketch which WAS my original setup, with red marks.
What of the red marked for removal (if any) MUST stay.

Your insight and help greatly appreciated

I will preface my response by saying I don't have a clue what an IDF system is. I even googled it, and still nothing, so that's probably what this is worth. That said:

If your evap lines are disconnected and plugged, and the engine is still running, it must be getting vented somehow. Possibly though a vented gas cap? Take the cap off, and put a little air pressure in there. If it holds pressure, it must be the cap that's venting. If it doesn't hold pressure, it's venting somewhere else, and you probably should find out where (I would want to know).

I took a look at your pic, and I would say you're safe removing all that stuff and plugging at the tank.
