I can't find where these 3 male plugs connect in the harness behind the center console. It's a newly acquired '79. The ignition key broke off and disappeared so I removed the instrument cluster to replace the ignition switch and only remember disconnecting harness plugs on the left side behind the cluster. After replacing ignition and locating the cluster the radio quit so I removed the center console to find the fuse holder and replaced the fuse. I don't remember disconnecting either of the 3 plugs pictured. As shown, the left one has 6 terminal cavities and all are occupied. The middle one (white) has 8 terminal cavities with 6 occupied and the right orange one has 8 with 6 occupied. Each plug has one hot terminal.

I picked this up over a year ago and am fairly sure all lights worked when I drove home. Now I can only get current to the driving lights in the rear tail assemblies, no brake, reverse or turn signal that I can notice. Headlights and all 4 marker lights work. I did a needed improvement on the rear light ground. I imagine it's possible there'd be 1 or maybe 2 plugs unused but not 3. And typically the harnesses are short enough to barely reach so it's not difficult to find the plug's mate. I've looked for the female plugs under/behind the dash and console with no luck. I also can't find where the bulb socket would plug into but there appears to be no current. Please take a look at the pic and help if you can. Thanks!

Sorry for the delay, I've only just noticed this query. I realise you may have already solved your problem But I'll offer the following in case you haven't. On the older Fiats, there usually aren't any large spare wiring plugs, it sounds like they were accidentally disconnected and never re-connected, perhaps by a previous owner/Mechanic?

The bulb holder/socket looks like what is fitted onto the side of the cigarette lighter which is iirc fitted in the radio/centre console. The yellow feed wire suggests this also. This bulb is only powered when the lights are on - so as your headlamps are working, try checking for power with lights on.

This bulb holder clips into a little bright zinc? colored metal cage on the side of the cigarette lighter. You might have to squeeze the sides of this metal cage to first remove it from the cig. lighter, then fit the bulb holder into cage and finally clip the cage and bulb holder back onto the cig. lighter.

It's possible that this metal cage (made from sheet metal pressed so that it forms 3 sides of a box shape) just became detached and the bulb holder fell out. If you can't find this metal cage, try looking down the sides of the centre tunnel cover, it may have lodged where the carpet finishes.

Re:- the 3 mystery wiring plugs. If you list the wire colors going to each plug, I'll check my wiring diagram and report back - don't bother with the position of each wire in each plug, I just need the colors. But 1st, iirc, there are 3 female wiring plugs going to the instrument cluster, are you sure you re-connected these before you refitted the instrument cluster?

A few questions -
Are your windscreen wipers, turn signals and dip and full headlights working?
Are your instruments, their night-time illumination and all warning lights working?
Has your car got the factory optional air conditioning fitted?

Your mention (above) of having no brake, turn or reverse lights makes me think a possible fuse issue.

My wiring diagram for the earlier U.S. Spider >c.1977 (I don't have one for the 1979) shows a Fusebox with 10 fuses, the lid shows the lettering.

In case you've no lid, Fuse A is the 25Amp at one end, all the others B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,L, should be 8Amp. I'd suggest you check out Fuse I, this controls turn signals, brake lights, reverse lights. It also controls the tachometer(rev-counter), the oil pressure, water temperature and fuel gauges plus a few other things.

Hth,

Al.

The plug on the left is for the seat belt buzzer if your car came with the seat belt chime. The plug in the center is for power windows if the car had those also. Don't know the one on the right.
