Cheers everyone.
Few months ago I've purchased an Fiat 124 Sport Spider 1973 through an online auction from Belgium. Didn't see the car live but only based on pictures provided and description made by the seller.
All good, lady arrived safely with all papers, apparently in good order, marked as an "OLDTIMER".
The car is in a pretty good condition, all working and driving nice.
Yet, at the time I wanted to register it, during the inspection done by the national Car Registrar it came out that, on one hand, the chassis serial number seems to have a problem (i.e. looks like it has been patched from/on a different chassis) and, on the other hand, the engine the car is fitted with is an 1.8l of which serial number belongs to a series of engines built in 1985 for Fiat Argenta models.
Tomorrow a commission is going to be gathered in order to assess and eventually decide upon the inconsistencies found.
If they'll decide that the serial number has been patched/illegally fitted my option is clear, I'll contact the vendor, raise a claim and see what will be the outcome.
If they'll give an ok for the chassis serial number I'll still have an issue with the engine type the car is fitted with that would not allow me to register it as an oldtimer.
Here comes my question: is it possible that the engine type now fitted on the car to be constructively identical with the one the car has been originally fitted with, at least the block, and I can sustain this in front of the commission? If affirmative, where can I find any tech specs that I can make use of this respect?
Otherwise, I might register the car as it is and I'll start looking for an original engine and then re-apply for the oldtimer status.
Look forward to getting any assistance from you with many thanks in advance.
