Cheers everyone.
Few months ago I've purchased an Fiat 124 Sport Spider 1973 through an online auction from Belgium. Didn't see the car live but only based on pictures provided and description made by the seller.
All good, lady arrived safely with all papers, apparently in good order, marked as an "OLDTIMER".
The car is in a pretty good condition, all working and driving nice.
Yet, at the time I wanted to register it, during the inspection done by the national Car Registrar it came out that, on one hand, the chassis serial number seems to have a problem (i.e. looks like it has been patched from/on a different chassis) and, on the other hand, the engine the car is fitted with is an 1.8l of which serial number belongs to a series of engines built in 1985 for Fiat Argenta models.
Tomorrow a commission is going to be gathered in order to assess and eventually decide upon the inconsistencies found.
If they'll decide that the serial number has been patched/illegally fitted my option is clear, I'll contact the vendor, raise a claim and see what will be the outcome.
If they'll give an ok for the chassis serial number I'll still have an issue with the engine type the car is fitted with that would not allow me to register it as an oldtimer.
Here comes my question: is it possible that the engine type now fitted on the car to be constructively identical with the one the car has been originally fitted with, at least the block, and I can sustain this in front of the commission? If affirmative, where can I find any tech specs that I can make use of this respect?
Otherwise, I might register the car as it is and I'll start looking for an original engine and then re-apply for the oldtimer status.
Look forward to getting any assistance from you with many thanks in advance.

Hi, Welcome to the FF.

The documents below may help you identify the car.

Hi Davren.
Thanks a lot for your swift reply, hope to serve somehow. Is there any other source on the internet (haven't found any so far) to get the full manual including above?
I'll keep you all posted with the outcome.

Cu placere.

I don't know of any online source for the manual. I have individual pages of the parts list and workshop manual as PDF files, but the workshop manual only covers 1975 - 1982 models. I can post a few pages if you need anything specific.

Where in Romania are you?

Thanks for yours.
I have an answer now from local Registrar.
Indeed, the chassis serial issue went past but not the engine. The engine is a 132D series. Albeit on the '85 124 Spider model, according also with the file you provided, a generic 132 series engine has been fitted (that one can say would be just fine), gents have not granted the oldtimer status which I also agree with as there is a mismatch.
Deciding now as what to further do with the seller.
Does anyone know which are the rules in Belgium according to which a vehicle is being granted with the oldtimer status?
Constanta is my city of residence.

The Lampredi twin cam was produced for many many years in capacities from 1300 to 2000, so the 1800 twin cam is a member of the same family as the original 1600.

D
Thanks for the info, noted.
As earlier posted the engine issue is now clear, I'm just trying to decide myself as what to do next.
I was actually looking for another oldtimer and not a hot rod...
Cheers.

I know it well. Drive there from London every year to visit friends in Murfatlar.
.

What a coincidence! I do also know London pretty well as flying there often....???
Just kidding.
I'll then might have a chance to pay my debt to you for the assistance provided. Red or white? ?
