Technical Vin number issues

Hi,

I am trying to register a recently imported from USA Fiat 124 Pininfarina 1982 spider. There is a VIN number plate on the door and the same number on the windscreen. However there is also what seems to be a different VIN number on the engine block. DVLA sent back the documents. The VIn number on the door is traceable on VIN search but the one on the block is not.

Can someone explain and tell me how to deal with DVLA?
