Hi
I have just bought a 1977 Spider with 1800 engine.
could anyone advise where the engine number is located.
I have had a good look but cannot see it.
thank you

Kevjoyce,

On my 1981 spider the engine numbers are stamped in small letters & numbers on the engine block. Look for a small flat area on the lower left side of block just above and slightly in front of engine mount bracket (between and below the general area of the starter motor and alternator). Mine is a USA car; may be different for British versions (?). I had to clean off dirt and gunk to read it.

On the European spec 124's the alternator is mounted on the other side of the engine (exhaust side) and the engine number is stamped on a machined flat on the cylinder block just above the oil filter housing which is an aluminium casting.

Apologies for the delay, new to forums

I have found the number close to the oil filter.
